Are you a Nanaimo teen ready for a fresh, sun-kissed look? Balayage is one of the easiest ways to add dimension and style without high maintenance.

At Mehron Salon in North Town Centre Nanaimo, our expert colourists specialize in teen-friendly balayage that suits school life, sports, and weekend plans.

Read on to learn what balayage Nanaimo teens are loving, how to prepare, and how to book—call 250-585-5659 to book your student colour consult now.

What is Balayage?

Balayage (pronounced bah-lay-ahzh) is a free-hand painting technique that creates soft, natural-looking highlights. Instead of using foils, stylists hand-paint sections of hair to mimic how the sun would naturally lighten strands. The result is a graduated, blended look that grows out gracefully.

Why Balayage is Perfect for Teens
  • Low Maintenance: Balayage grows out naturally, so fewer salon visits—great for busy school schedules.
  • Natural Finish: Gives a subtle, sun-kissed effect that’s perfect for everyday life and school photos.
  • Customizable: From subtle face-framing to bold contrast, balayage can be tailored to your style.
  • Less Damage: When done by professionals, it avoids over-processing and keeps hair healthier.

At Mehron Salon in North Town Centre, our stylists listen to your vision and create looks that fit your lifestyle. Call 250-585-5659 to book a student colour consult and start the conversation.

Balayage vs. Highlights: Quick Comparison
  • Technique: Highlights use foils and sectioning; balayage is hand-painted.
  • Look: Highlights create defined strips of lighter color; balayage looks softer and more blended.
  • Upkeep: Highlights may need more frequent root touch-ups; balayage is more forgiving as it grows out.

Preparing for Your Balayage Appointment
  1. Book a Consultation: Call 250-585-5659 to schedule a student colour consult. Tell us about your hair history, desired look, and any concerns.
  2. Bring Inspiration: Screenshots or photos help communicate the exact style you want.
  3. Hair Health Check: Avoid heavy styling products the day of your appointment. If your hair is damaged, mention it during your consult—your stylist will recommend treatments or gentler options.
  4. Know Your Schedule: Balayage sessions typically take longer than a basic cut—plan for 2–4 hours depending on hair length.

Maintenance & Aftercare
  • Use Color-Safe Products: Choose sulfate-free shampoos and conditioners to protect color.
  • Limit Heat: Use heat protectant sprays when styling and keep hot tools to a minimum.
  • Deep Conditioning: Regular masks keep hair shiny and healthy after the lightening process.
  • Touch-Ups: Expect touch-ups every 3–6 months. Balayage’s natural grow-out makes it easier to wait longer between appointments.

For product recommendations and personalized care plans, call Mehron Salon at 250-585-5659. Call now to reserve your appointment.

Cost Expectations

Balayage pricing depends on hair length, thickness, and the complexity of the look. As a general guide, expect higher than a simple color due to the time and skill involved. Mehron Salon offers transparent pricing and student-friendly options—call 250-585-5659 for a price estimate and to book your student colour consult.

Student Tips
  • Arrive on Time: Long appointments run smoother when scheduled properly.
  • Consider Mini Refreshes: Between full sessions, a toner or gloss can keep color vibrant.
  • Communicate: Be honest with your stylist about how much upkeep you want.

At Mehron Salon in North Town Centre Nanaimo, we love helping students find the right balance between style and upkeep. Call 250-585-5659 to book today.

Best Affordable Hair Salons Near Me in Nanaimo Area

Let’s be honest — finding a great hair salon that fits your budget isn’t as simple as a Google search. If you’re living in Nanaimo or anywhere on Vancouver Island, you’ve probably felt the struggle: you want to look and feel your best, but you’re not dropping a hundred bucks on a trim and style. You deserve affordable beauty without sacrificing quality or walking out with wonky bangs.

Nanaimo women are practical — you want value, not just a low price tag. Maybe you’ve bounced between salons before, chasing discounts or trying to find that one stylist who gets your hair. Maybe you’ve even tried those chain walk-ins that left you feeling like a number. The truth? You shouldn’t have to choose between a decent haircut and your hydro bill.

That’s exactly why this guide exists.

The local salon scene in Nanaimo is unique. We’re not Vancouver – we’ve got fewer options, smaller shops, and a tighter community feel. What that means? The best salons aren’t always the ones ranking at the top of Google. It’s often the hidden gems — tucked into plazas, near the ferry terminal, or just off Bowen Road — where you’ll find stylists who listen, deliver, and keep pricing honest.

Local matters more here: referrals come from your coworkers, the moms at school pickup, or the barista who always has perfect waves. You’re not just booking a service — you’re building trust with someone who’ll touch your hair every 6–8 weeks. And when that person charges fairly and actually nails your cut or colour? That’s gold.

So if you’re tired of getting burned at overpriced salons or settling for budget chains with inconsistent results, keep reading. This guide is built for Nanaimo women who value smart beauty decisions, real recommendations, and want every dollar to count.

What to Look For in an Affordable Hair Salon Near Me

If you’re serious about finding an affordable hair salon in Nanaimo that doesn’t cut corners (pun intended), then you need to know what actually matters — beyond just scrolling for the cheapest price.

Start with Reputation

Word of mouth is still the most reliable guide in a place like Nanaimo. Check local Facebook groups, ask coworkers, or just compliment that woman in the grocery aisle and ask where she got that blowout. Then confirm what you hear by checking Google Reviews or Yelp.

If a salon has dozens of happy clients saying the same things — great service, fair pricing, consistent cuts — that’s worth gold.

Stylist Experience Matters More Than a Fancy Interior

You want someone who knows their way around different hair textures, understands colour theory, and doesn’t wing it with your bangs. Many affordable salons in Nanaimo are run by longtime stylists who downplay frills and focus on craft. Don’t get distracted by marble countertops — pay attention to who’s behind the chair.

Know What Services They Offer

An affordable haircut is fine, but if you eventually want highlights, smoothing treatments, or a proper blow-dry, check that they offer the full range — or at least what you’ll need over the coming year. Some salons specialize in quick cuts only. Others offer packages or loyalty deals worth exploring if you plan on coming back regularly.

Price Transparency Shouldn’t Be Optional

If they aren’t upfront about what they charge, that’s a red flag. The best affordable salons in Nanaimo post rates clearly on their websites or social media. You shouldn’t have to DM anyone just to find out how much a cut or colour costs. Bonus points if the stylist walks you through pricing before they touch your hair.

Don’t assume cheaper means better value — some mid-range salons offer way more for only a few bucks extra.

Convenience Still Counts

If the salon’s on the wrong end of town or doesn’t have decent parking, it’s going to be a hassle — which means you’ll avoid going and let your hair fall apart. Look for locations near your usual loops: your work, your kids’ school, your gym. You’re more likely to stick with a stylist you can access without making it a half-day event.

Cleanliness Isn't Optional

Affordable doesn’t mean you should see unwashed tools, product crust on counters, or hair from the last five clients on the floor. A clean space tells you everything about how they take care of their tools — and their clients. Peek into the wash stations and see if they maintain their gear. It matters more than most people realize.

How to Prioritize
If you need to triage these qualities, start with reputation and stylist skill. From there:
  • If your budget is tight: Look for transparent pricing and entry-level cut packages.
  • If you have specific hair needs: Find a place with stylists who specialize in your hair type or goals — curly, thinning, thick, or high-colour maintenance.
  • If time is your bottleneck: Aim for convenience and flexible hours, especially walk-in availability.

Your best salon will be the one that delivers quality, doesn’t surprise you with hidden fees, and makes you feel listened to — without draining your wallet.

At the end of the day, finding your go-to salon in Nanaimo comes down to vibe, consistency, and price that feels right for your lifestyle. The great news? You’ve got plenty of solid choices — and none of them require a ferry ride or $150 appointments every eight weeks.

Breaking Down Salon Prices: What Affordable Really MeansLet’s clear something up right away — “affordable” doesn’t mean “cheap”. In Nanaimo, where the salon scene is a mix of long-standing local businesses and chain walk-ins, pricing can range dramatically. Understanding what you’re paying for (and what you’re not) is the first step to knowing if that budget-friendly quote is actually worth your time and hair.

Typical Price Ranges in Nanaimo
Here’s what you can expect when it comes to standard salon pricing in Nanaimo for women:
  • Haircuts: $28–$50
  • Root Touch-Ups: $60–$90
  • All-Over Colour: $80–$130
  • Highlights/Balayage: $100–$180
  • Deep Conditioning Treatments: $25–$60
  • Blowouts & Styling: $25–$55

Those numbers will vary depending on the stylist’s experience level, your hair length, and any extras like toners or masks. But these are solid ballpark figures if you’re booking a typical service in 2025.

Low-Cost vs Cheap vs Value-for-MoneyNot all “budget” salons are created equal. Here’s how to think about the difference:
  • Low-Cost: These are your walk-in chains or speed-cut spots. $22 trims, no frills. Great for a quick cleanup if you’re not picky, but don’t expect detailed consultation or styling finesse.
  • Cheap: This is risk territory — surprise fees, inconsistent cuts, or stylists fresh out of school without enough supervision. Sometimes it works out, but often it’s a “fix it later” situation.
  • Value-for-Money: The sweet spot. You’re paying $35–$45 for a proper cut by a stylist who understands your hair and respects your time. They’re not upselling you on everything. Results last longer, and the overall vibe is more pro than hustle.

Value-for-money salons save you cash in the long run because you’re not rebooking in three weeks to fix things. You’re walking out happy the first time.

What’s Usually Included (and What Isn’t)
Not all pricing is apples-to-apples, so ask yourself (or better yet, ask the salon):
  • Do cut prices include a wash and blow-dry? Many salons do, but walk-in chains sometimes don’t.
  • Is toner included with highlights? If not, tack on another $20–$40.
  • Are extra-long or thick hair charges clearly listed? Some stylists add $10–$25 for the extra product/time — nothing wrong with that as long as it’s upfront.

If it’s not listed online, call and ask – don’t assume. Hidden add-ons are where “affordable” becomes “ouch.”

Real Example: One Service, Three Price PointsLet’s say you want a trim and fresh full-head colour. Here’s how that breaks down in Nanaimo:
  • Low-Cost Choice: Great Clips cut ($22.99) + box dye at home ($15) = $38. It might tide you over, but results can be inconsistent — especially with colour.
  • Cheap Salon Option: Cut and colour advertised at $75, but toning and styling bumps it to $110. And if it’s poorly done? You end up paying even more to fix it elsewhere.
  • Value-for-Money Salon: $40–$50 cut + $85 colour, full consultation, and blowout included. Fewer surprises, longer-lasting results, and usually better treatment for your hair.

So while the low-cost route looks tempting, real affordability comes from not doubling back for damage control two weeks later.

When Mid-Range is Worth It

If you colour your hair regularly, have hard-to-manage texture, or want to try something fresh (without risking a DIY disaster), spending an extra $30 up front at a skilled, mid-range salon pays off. You’ll get proper technique, less damage, and results that actually match your inspo photos.

Budget salons aren’t always the cheapest option when you zoom out over time.

Final Tip: Always Ask About Package Deals or Loyalty Discounts

Several Nanaimo salons offer punch cards, touch-up bundles, or off-season deals. These don’t always make it to the website — you’ve gotta ask. Loyal clients often get better availability and pricing perks over time, too.

Bottom line?

Affordable isn’t just about what’s on the receipt — it’s the experience, the outcome, and how long it lasts before you’re back in the chair. Choose salons that price clearly, deliver consistently, and actually care about your hair’s health — not just the ticker total.

How to Find Beauty Salons Near Me and Get the Best DealsIf you’re living in Nanaimo and want quality hair care on a realistic budget, you can’t rely on luck. You need a smart plan. The good news? The tools to find great salons (without draining your wallet) are right on your phone — if you know how to use them right. Here’s how to actually find those affordable hair spots and scoop up the best deals before anyone else.

Start With Google Maps — But Don’t Stop There

Google Maps is a quick way to find salons near your house, work, or your kid’s school. Search “hair salons near me” and filter by star rating (aim for 4.3+). Read the reviews — not just the stars. Look for recent feedback on cost, consistency, and vibe.

Pro tip: Once you find a few contenders, check their photos. A no-nonsense, clean setup with happy client selfies tells you a lot more than a stock image ever will.

Yelp is Clutch for Price Ranges and Real Talk

Yelp’s community in Nanaimo may not be massive, but it’s honest. Filter salons by “Most Reviewed” or “Highest Rated” and scan what people are saying about cost vs. results.

Look for clear descriptions like: “Consistently solid trims for under $40” or “Colour correction without the upsell” — that’s what you're hunting for. If someone mentions being surprised by add-ons or unclear pricing, take note.

Use Fresha or Vagaro to Book Smarter

A lot of local Nanaimo salons now use online booking platforms like Fresha or Vagaro. These sites let you:
  • See full service menus with prices
  • Book instantly based on real-time availability
  • Compare stylist bios and specialties (huge win if you have specific hair needs)
  • Get appointment reminders via text or email

The bonus? Some salons quietly add first-time client discounts or seasonal packages on these platforms. You just need to scroll or tap the “Special Offers” tab.

Follow Local Salons on Instagram for Flash Deals

Forget billboards or radio promos — many Nanaimo stylists use Instagram as their front window. They post:
  • Last-minute appointment openings (sometimes discounted)
  • Loyalty deal announcements
  • Before/after photos that show real results
  • Contests for free services or product bundles

Quick tip: Follow your top 3–5 salons and turn on post notifications. That way, you’ll catch limited-time offers before they book up.

Book Midweek or Mid-Month to Score Better Rates

The busiest salon days? Weekends and the days leading into payday. Booking Tuesday through Thursday or in the second week of a month can mean easier availability — and sometimes softer pricing, especially for non-peak hours like morning or early afternoon.

If your schedule’s flexible, use it. You’ll get in sooner and may even negotiate a small deal if a stylist’s trying to fill a slow spot.

Ask Directly About Loyalty Programs or Bundles

Most affordable salons in Nanaimo run loyalty cards or bundle packages — but they’re not always advertised front and center. These include:
  • Buy 5 trims, get the 6th free
  • Root touch-up + gloss + trim combo packs
  • Refer-a-friend credits on your next visit

You have to ask. Don’t be shy — just say “Do you have any loyalty programs or seasonal deals right now?” The worst answer you’ll get is no. The best? You just saved $20 or more.

Use Facebook Groups for Real-World Intel

Local groups like Nanaimo Moms, Vancouver Island Beauty Talk, or even your neighbourhood buy-and-sell are gold mines for salon referrals and quiet deals.

Here’s how to mine it:
  1. Search the group for “affordable hair salon” or “budget haircut Nanaimo”
  2. See what people recommend — the good and the bad
  3. DM posters who seem reliable and ask for details

Most women in these groups are happy to share who they trust — especially if the stylist’s been good to them on budget and results.

Don’t Overlook the Salon’s Own Website

Old-school? Maybe. But many Nanaimo salons still post their prices, packages, and announcements on basic HTML websites — the kind their niece made in 2014. Doesn’t matter. Scroll through their Services or Deals page. It’s often the most honest pricing list you'll find.

One of the best ways to snag a deal is to actually read what a salon includes in their standard service. If a $38 cut includes a blowout and style, that beats a $32 one that doesn’t.
One Call Can Save You a Ton

Before booking — especially if a salon’s pricing online looks vague — just call. Ask:
  • “What’s your current promo for new clients?”
  • “Do you offer combo deals on colour and cut?”
  • “Is there a price difference for morning bookings?”

People respect directness. And stylists — especially in smaller Nanaimo shops — would much rather fill their afternoon with a smart regular than hold out for a full-priced walk-in that may not show.

Bottom line:

The best salon deals in Nanaimo aren’t always shouted from the rooftops. They’re in the DMs, the midweek slots, or the bottom corner of an Instagram Story. Stay proactive, ask smart questions, and follow your top picks closely.

Your hair deserves consistent care — and quality doesn’t need to come with a luxury price tag.

Walk-in vs. Appointment: What’s Best for Affordable Hair Care?In Nanaimo, your choice between scheduling an appointment and just walking in can directly impact both your budget and your hair results. Here’s the honest lowdown — with real pros, cons, and how it actually plays out across local salons.

Walk-Ins: Convenience, But With Trade-Offs

Walk-in salons are popular for a reason: no planning, no commitment, just a quick trim when you’ve got time. For $20 to $30, you can be in and out in under an hour — especially if you hit it during a lull.
  • Best for: Basic maintenance like bang trims, kids' cuts, or tidy-ups between major styles
  • Typical spots: Great Clips, mall salons, and some lower-cost spots near downtown or terminal areas

The catch? You don’t choose your stylist, and quality can vary. Walk-ins often mean whoever’s free handles your hair — and not every stylist is going to understand your hair goals, texture, or how to work with colour-treated strands.

Also worth noting: On weekends or late afternoons, wait times can stretch up to 45–60 minutes. Flexibility helps — but only if your time isn’t being chewed up watching daytime TV in a plastic chair.

Appointments: More Control, Better ResultsBooking an appointment — especially at a small local salon — gives you consistency. You pick your stylist, explain your goals, and build that relationship from visit to visit.
  • More likely to get: A personalized consult, better blend on your layers or colour, and service that feels intentional
  • Typical price bump: Around $5–$10 more than walk-in rates, but not always

This is key: Many affordable Nanaimo salons are run by experienced stylists working solo or in small teams. They often only take clients by appointment and book a specific time slot just for you — no rushing, no juggling multiple people at once.

If your hair needs finesse — curls, thinning hair, past damage — scheduled time with someone who’s trained to handle it is worth every cent.

How Nanaimo Salons Typically Handle It
  • Chain salons (e.g., Great Clips): Walk-in focused. Appointments aren’t actually “booked” — just checked in via app or on arrival.
  • Independent salons: Appointment-only, often booked out a few days or even weeks in advance for colour or specialty services.
  • Mid-tier salons: Mix of both. They may accept walk-ins for trims but prefer appointments for anything more detailed.

Avoid assuming availability. In Nanaimo, multiple stylists work solo in boutique spaces. If you show up without calling, you might wait hours or be turned away — especially during prom, wedding season, or post-holiday months.

Which One Saves More Money? If time equals money for you:
  • Walk-ins: Great for speed and basic touch-ups, especially on slow weekdays
  • Appointments: Better ROI on more complex styles, colour longevity, or hair health

The myth that appointments are always pricier isn’t true. Stylists often build in value — like free consultations or styling tips — and what you get for the money tends to last longer than a budget cut that needs fixing sooner.

What Works Best in Real Life:
  • Use walk-ins when: You’re in between major services and just need maintenance
  • Book appointments when: You’re changing your colour, reshaping your cut, or want reliable results every time

Pro trick: Some salons (like Z&Co or Urban Hair Boutique) offer appointment slots with junior stylists at a discount. You get skilled hands, more attention than a walk-in, and lower prices than the senior team. Ask about this when you call.

The bottom line? In Nanaimo, if you care about consistency and quality — even on a budget — scheduling ahead is usually the smarter use of your money. But don’t sleep on a well-timed walk-in for those between-trim visits when you need to feel fresh, fast.

Special Considerations: Women Hair Salons, Services for Different Hair Types, and Inclusive SalonsNot every salon is built for every woman. And if you’ve got curls, thinning spots, really thick hair, or just want professionals who understand shape, structure, and texture — you need more than a cheap trim and a five-minute blow-dry.

Nanaimo has a growing list of studios that focus on women’s hair, inclusive beauty, and textured styling.

Women-Focused Salons That Actually Get It

Some salons may say they offer “women’s cuts,” but what you really want is somewhere that specializes in women’s hair shapes, growth patterns, and maintenance goals — not just as an afterthought.
  • Harbour City Hair Studio has stylists who are consistently praised for shape control and listening to your real-life hair needs. They’re excellent at layers, precision cuts, and helping you grow out styles intentionally.
  • The Glam Bar Beauty Lounge leans holistic — you can get your hair, brows, and lashes done in one shot. Ideal for women juggling work, kids, schedules, and wanting maximum efficiency without bouncing between shops.
  • Urban Hair Boutique is led by women, caters to women, and offers a safe, no-judgment space — especially for those navigating hair loss, postpartum texture changes, or major transitions like going gray by choice, not defeat.

It’s not just about looking good — it’s about being heard, understood, and styled accordingly.

Salons That Handle Different Hair Types — and Do It Well

If you’ve got curls, coils, waves, or finer strands that need care — you already know standard cuts won’t cut it. Nanaimo stylists are catching up fast, and a few really stand out for textured hair mastery:
  • Mehron Salon: They’re confident with balayage on curly textures and offer deep conditioning treatments perfect for thick or dry strands. Stylists here talk about your actual hair goals, not what’s easiest to sell.
  • Urban Hair Boutique: Easily one of the most inclusive shops on the island. They do natural hair, texturized cuts, and protective styling. Whether it’s waves, 4C curls, or transitioning hair, they’ve got the skills — and the right products on hand.
  • Shear Essence Hair Studio: While more budget-friendly, their stylists have years of local experience working with both thick and fine hair. They’re realistic and honest about what will work based on your hair’s density and your upkeep habits.

Texture isn’t a problem — but an untrained stylist is. Don’t be afraid to call a salon and ask directly: “Do you have someone experienced with [insert your hair type]?”

Salons That Offer Inclusive Services Beyond the Basics
If all you’re after is a trim, great — but many Nanaimo women want multipurpose beauty spots that let you knock out more than one service at once. These places stand out for both hair and beauty add-ons:
  • The Glam Bar Beauty Lounge: They offer brow tinting, facials, lash lifts, and even makeup services. Great if you’re prepping for a special event or want to bundle self-care without hopping around town.
  • Urban Hair Boutique: They carry high-quality hair care products, but also offer consultations on scalp health, thinning hair, and options for hair loss (real talk — not a pitch fest).
  • Smaller spots like The Hair Nook occasionally bring in estheticians or work alongside beauty pros in shared spaces. It’s always worth asking what’s available that month — sometimes you’ll find hidden gems.

Inclusive Means More Than Just Services

Let’s keep it real: not every woman was made with the same hair, budget, time, or confidence level. An inclusive salon doesn’t just say “all are welcome,” — they actually show it. That means:
  • Hiring diverse staff who know how to work with a wide range of hair textures
  • Offering gender-neutral pricing or clear women’s service menus (no pink tax fluff)
  • Creating a safe environment for queer, trans, neurodiverse, or older clients navigating hair changes

You’re not asking for special treatment — just fair treatment from someone who knows what the hell they’re doing.

Salons That Sell Beauty Shop Items — Worth It?Some of the best salon value in Nanaimo isn’t just the service — it’s in what they send you home with. Many salons now carry pro-quality hair products that actually match what they just used on you. This matters.
  • The Glam Bar and Urban Hair Boutique both stock curated lines like Olaplex, MoroccanOil, and Kevin Murphy — all solid if you want to stretch colour or reduce frizz between visits
  • Z&Co offers seasonal promos where you get a deep conditioning treatment in-salon, then take home a product-sized version for upkeep
  • Tip: Ask your stylist if they offer bundle pricing when you get service + product together

Buying from the salon might feel more expensive at first, but here’s the math: the right product saves you from overdrying, hair fallout, and early colour fade. That means fewer expensive fixes — and longer in between visits.

Bottom Line

Nanaimo’s best affordable salons aren’t just trying to crank out one-style-fits-all cuts. They’re listening. They’re tailoring. They’re building services for the real women who live here — with all kinds of hair, all levels of comfort, and all kinds of goals.
So whether you need help managing thick curls, finding a stylist who can shape around thinning edges, or just a crew that won’t bat an eye when you ask for both a fresh fade and a brow tint — those salons exist here, and they won’t clean out your bank account.

Tips for Maintaining Your Hair Between Salon Visits Without Breaking the BankSalon visits aren’t always in the cards — whether it’s timing, budget, or just life getting in the way. But that doesn’t mean your hair has to suffer. With smart maintenance and the right products, you can keep your hair looking fresh, healthy, and styled throughout the in-between weeks.

Here’s how to stretch the impact of your last visit without shelling out more cash than necessary.

Stick to a Simple, Consistent RoutineConsistency beats complexity. You don’t need a cabinet full of trendy treatments — just the right core basics:
  • Sulfate-free shampoo (preserves colour and doesn’t strip moisture)
  • A solid conditioner (especially if you heat style or colour treat)
  • Leave-in or light hair oil (to seal ends and add shine on non-wash days)

Pro tip: Wash every 2–3 days max. Over-washing fades colour and dries out ends, especially if you’re using city water around Nanaimo.

Buy Smarter — Not Always CheaperDrugstores on the Island have their place, but pick your products carefully. Cheap conditioners often coat rather than treat. You’ll find better longevity from products designed by stylists — and many are available locally without breaking your grocery budget.
  • Sally Beauty in Nanaimo North Town Centre carries pro lines like Ion, AG Hair, and Not Your Mother's (great for curls on a budget)
  • London Drugs often runs sales on Joico, Matrix, and L’Oreal Professionnel — solid mid-range salon options under $30
  • Urban Hair Boutique and Z&Co both sell select salon brands in mini sizes — cheaper and perfect for testing before committing

Ask your stylist what they’d recommend at your price point. They’re usually honest and can point you to products that get salon-level results at home.

DIY Treatments That Actually WorkYou don’t need to Pinterest your way into a hair disaster. Stick with proven, affordable treatments you can find in your fridge or pharmacy. Here are a few that actually do the job:
  • Coconut oil mask: Apply mid-shaft to ends, leave on for 20 minutes (or overnight), then wash well. Great for hydration, especially in drier winter temps.
  • Apple cider vinegar rinse: Mix 1 part ACV to 3 parts water, use after shampoo as a clarifier. Removes product buildup and boosts shine.
  • DIY deep conditioner: Mix ½ avocado + 1 tbsp olive oil + egg yolk. Slather on and rinse after 15–20 minutes. Pro tip — rinse with cool water or you’ll cook the egg.

Skip mayo, baking soda, or lemon juice tricks. They can mess with your scalp’s pH or strip colour faster than you think.

Keep Split Ends at Bay

If your ends fray fast, you don’t need a full cut every four weeks. Here’s how to keep them smooth longer:
  • Use a microfiber towel or soft cotton T-shirt to dry
  • Sleep in a satin bonnet or use a silk pillowcase
  • Apply a pea-sized drop of argan or jojoba oil to ends every few days

If your cut is losing shape but isn’t wrecked, consider a dry-dusting service — some Nanaimo salons offer this under $20 to clean up just the ends without a full reshape.

Freshen Colour Without a Trip to the Chair

Between root touch-ups or highlights, temporary colour-boosting products can stretch your results while preventing harsh regrowth lines.
  • Purple shampoos (e.g. Fanola No Yellow, AG Sterling Silver) for blondes and ash tones — pick them up at any Sally Beauty or salon
  • Colour-depositing conditioners (like Keracolor's Clenditioner line) add vibrancy without full dye jobs — perfect for brunettes or redheads
  • Root concealer sprays available at London Drugs or Shoppers — ideal for last-minute gray coverage ahead of an event

Careful with box dye “quick fixes”. You’ll often end up offsetting price savings with damage or unpredictable results that cost more to fix.

Know When to Go Back to the SalonHome maintenance is key — but don’t push it too far. Here’s when to call your stylist rather than DIY it:
  • Hair feels dry no matter what products you use — time for a clarifying treatment followed by pro hydration
  • Your roots are out more than 2 inches — at that point, colour matching at home gets sketchy fast
  • Curly or thick hair losing shape — even a small reshape or layering service keeps everything under control
  • You're seeing breakage or major frizz that won’t smooth — you need a proper treatment, not just a serum

A well-timed $40-60 salon visit can save you from needing a $150 repair service later. Spread out your big services by adding short visits like trims or tone refreshers instead of waiting for full-overhauls.

Ask About Between-Visit Services

Nanaimo salons like Urban Hair Boutique and Shear Essence offer mini treatments or bang trims at discounted rates. These 15–30 minute visits help you stay fresh without committing to full cuts. Some options include:
  • Bangs/border trim: Usually around $10–$15
  • Toner refresh: Starting at $25
  • Quick conditioning mask + style: Often under $35

Not listed on the service menu? Ask for it. They’d rather keep you coming in semi-regularly than wait for a full overhaul every six months.

Bottom Line
Salon-quality hair doesn’t require salon visits every month — but it does require maintenance. Invest in the right products, use smart DIYs, and know when to check back in with your stylist. That’s how you keep the glow-up going without bloating your beauty budget.

You’re not skipping care — you’re strategizing it. That’s the difference between frugal and flaky.

Frequently Asked Questions About Affordable Hair Salons in NanaimoHow much should I tip at a hair salon in Nanaimo? Here in Canada, tipping at hair salons is standard and expected — just like tipping at restaurants. The usual range is:
  • 15% to 20% of your total, pre-tax bill for good service
  • More if your stylist squeezed you in last-minute or went above and beyond

Example: If your cut and colour service comes to $120, tipping $18 to $24 is considered appropriate. You can always adjust based on the experience and outcome, but low or no tips stand out — especially in smaller Nanaimo salons where stylists remember their regulars.

Pro tip: If you’re on a budget, don’t stiff the tip — just let your stylist know what services you can comfortably afford this time around.

Are taxes included in hair salon prices in British Columbia? No, they’re usually not included. In BC, hair and beauty services are subject to 5% GST (Goods and Services Tax). Most salons will add this to your bill at the register, not list it in the prices you see online or on their website.

So if your cut is listed at $40, your final bill will be $42.00 before tip. It’s not a huge add-on, but it’s helpful to factor it in, especially if you’re working with a tight budget.
And don’t assume it’s included unless it says so explicitly. Always ask if you're unsure — most stylists will be happy to confirm upfront.

What services can I expect at low-cost or budget salons in Nanaimo?
Low-cost doesn’t mean low-effort. Many budget-friendly salons in Nanaimo still offer a solid lineup of hair services. Here’s what’s typically available:
  • Women’s haircuts (anywhere from $28 to $45)
  • Basic colouring (like root touch-ups or all-over single shade colour)
  • Blow-dry and style — but not guaranteed to be included unless listed
  • Bang trims or quick fringe clean-ups (often $10–$15)
  • Entry-level highlights like partial foils or glossing

Where you might run into limitations:
  • Advanced colour (like balayage, colour correction, or vivid tones)
  • Consultations for textured or high-maintenance hair types
  • Luxury-value additions — scalp massages, masks, or steaming treatments

That said, many mid-price salons in town offer more inclusive services for not much more money. It’s worth comparing what’s included — one place’s $38 cut could include a blow-dry, while another’s $32 doesn’t.

How do I pick the right salon for my hair type and budget?Start by knowing what matters most to you right now. Then use that to guide your decision:
  • Have curls, thick, or textured hair? Look for stylists who specialize in your hair type — Urban Hair Boutique and Z&Co both have a strong track record here.
  • Need something truly budget-conscious? Focus on transparent pricing — Shear Essence and Great Clips offer baseline services clearly listed upfront.
  • Want something modern and stylish that won’t wreck your wallet? Z&Co and The Hair Nook hit the balance between skill and price.
  • Looking for a one-stop beauty experience? The Glam Bar adds facials, threading, and tinting — busy women love that combo.

Most important: Don’t just look at price. Check reviews, ask local women (Facebook groups help), and call the salon to ask if they’ve worked with your hair type. Stylists in Nanaimo are usually direct and happy to clarify what they do well.

Bottom line? The right salon is the one that understands your goals, respects your budget, and delivers consistent results. Whether you’ve got $40 or $140 to work with, you’ve got options — and now you’ve got a head start.
Conclusion: Making the Most of Affordable Hair Salons Near Me in NanaimoIf you’ve made it this far, you already know this isn’t about finding the cheapest haircut in town. It’s about finding the right fit — a place where your time, budget, and hair are all respected.

Nanaimo might not have a salon on every block like big cities, but that’s not a drawback. It means quality rises to the surface faster. Referrals mean something here. Stylists care more about reputation than racking up five-minute trims. And the best part? There are more affordable, consistent, and skilled options than most locals realize.

If you want good hair without overpaying, here’s the truth:
  • Know what you value — whether it’s expert colouring, curly hair finesse, clean trims, or convenience
  • Do the homework — check reviews, ask friends, and don’t be afraid to call a salon and ask blunt questions
  • Stick with stylists who communicate clearly and don’t upcharge out of nowhere
  • Use smart tools like Fresha, follow local IG accounts, and time your bookings to save
  • Maintain your look between visits with the right at-home care to extend your results and stretch your dollars

You don’t have to settle for rushed walk-in cuts or overpriced glam shops just to feel good about your hair. Nanaimo has local salons delivering real results for real women — whether you’re after a basic trim or something bold.

Trust your instincts, protect your budget, and keep your hair standard high. A great cut, clean colour, and calm service doesn’t have to cost you half your paycheque. Once you find your go-to spot, everything gets easier: better advice, smoother appointments, and consistent hair you actually love.

Smart beauty isn’t about sacrifice — it’s about strategy. And now, you've got every tool to pull it off in Nanaimo.

Are you looking to transform your appearance and boost your confidence?

A glow up might be just what you need.

A glow up is a term used to describe a dramatic improvement in appearance, confidence, and overall lifestyle. While it can mean different things to different people, a glow up often involves taking care of your skin, body, and mental health to achieve a radiant, confident glow.

Here are seven expert-approved ways to glow up as a woman:

1. Take care of your skin

Your skin is the foundation of your glow up, and taking care of it is essential. Develop a skincare routine that works for you, including cleansing, moisturizing, and exfoliating regularly. Don't forget to wear sunscreen to protect your skin from sun damage. Use high-quality skincare products that are suitable for your skin type.
When it comes to skincare, consistency is key. Make sure to follow your skincare routine every day to see the best results. With time and patience, you'll notice a significant improvement in your skin's texture, tone, and overall health

2. Drink plenty of water

Drinking enough water is essential for healthy, glowing skin. Aim to drink at least 8 glasses of water a day to keep your skin looking plump and radiant. Staying hydrated can also help flush out toxins from your body and improve your overall health.

3. Exercise regularly Regular exercise is not only good for your physical health, but it can also help give you a natural glow. Exercise improves blood circulation, which can make your skin look more radiant. Aim for at least 30 minutes of exercise most days of the week, whether it's going for a walk, practicing yoga, or hitting the gym.

4. Dress to impress Dressing well is an essential part of a glow up. Choose clothes that make you feel confident and comfortable. Experiment with different styles and colors to find what works best for you. Consider investing in high-quality, timeless pieces that will last you for years.

5. Practice good posture

Good posture can make you look taller, more confident, and even help prevent back pain. Stand up straight, pull your shoulders back, and engage your core muscles. Practice good posture while sitting, standing, and walking to improve your appearance and overall health.

6. Focus on self-care

Taking care of your mental health is just as important as taking care of your physical health. Practice meditation, take a relaxing bath, or treat yourself to a massage or spa day. A healthy mind and body contribute to a glow up. Make sure to take time for yourself and do things that make you happy.

7. Keep learning and growing

Continuous learning and personal growth are essential for a glow up. Learning new skills, trying new experiences, and stepping out of your comfort zone can help you grow and become more confident in yourself. Keep an open mind and embrace new opportunities. You'll be surprised at how much you can achieve with a growth mindset.

In conclusion, a glow up is all about taking care of yourself and prioritizing your health and happiness. By following these expert-approved tips, you can achieve a radiant, confident glow that will help you feel your best. Remember, a glow up is a journey, not a destination.

Keep up the great work, and you'll be amazed at how far you can go. ❤️

5 Manicures You Need to Try Right Now

9/2/2022

Wondering what the latest nail trends are in 2022? You've come to the right place!

Whether you're looking to spend a lot of money or a little, we've got the list of manicures for your budget. Read below to learn about five different types of professional manicures and what hair salon in Nanaimo to visit to have them done!

Acrylic Manicure

Are you looking to add some length to your short nails? An acrylic manicure can help with that!

This type of manicure uses both a liquid monomer and a powder polymer to create a strong layer on your nails that will last you around three weeks. You can ask your manicurist to make them into just about any shape you'd like including...

  • Round
  • Square
  • Oval
  • Almond
  • Squoval
  • Stiletto
  • Coffin

The choices don't stop there either! Your professional manicurist can lead you in the right direction for the look you're trying to achieve.

Plan to spend one to two hours in the salon for acrylic nails. They cost anywhere from $30 to $100 depending on the salon and design.

Don't be concerned when your manicurist roughs up your nail a little bit. This helps the acrylic nail adhere properly to your natural nail.

They will then use a brush to shape the nail into the shape you want before allowing it to cure. Once it's fully cured, the polish is applied.

Trying to take your acrylic nails off yourself is a good way to ruin your nails. Never try to rip them off without the proper soaking. It's much better to go to the salon and allow the nail tech to remove them.

Dip Manicure

A dip powder manicure is a fun and fairly inexpensive option for your nails. It is a similar technique to acrylic except the bonding agent is different.

Your nail tech applies the superglue-like substance to your nails and then either dips or pours colored powder over the top. It's not liquid!

Your nails stay dry to promote the best adhesion of powder possible. Once enough pigment is applied, a clear, protective layer goes on top.

Dip manicures can last you up to four weeks, but it's a good idea to change it every 14 days to avoid any bacteria from forming. You can expect to pay anywhere from $30 to $55.

Removing a dip manicure can be a scary process if you've never done it before. However, if you follow the proper procedure, your nails should be fine.

You need to buff away the top, clear coat before soaking your nails in acetone for about 15 minutes. Then, you should be able to wipe the dip away with a cotton ball or pad that has been soaked in acetone.

Gel Manicure

While there used to be just two kinds of gel manicures, hard and soft, you can now also get gel extensions. However, gel extensions are pre-made in a variety of shapes and are then applied to the nail.

The difference between hard and soft gel manicures is the way they're removed. Soft gel manicures are easier to remove because they just need soaking.

Hard gel manicures need to be filed off but also allow you to do more nail shapes than soft ones. Hard gel is similar to acrylic but isn't quite as rigid.

Gel manicures look similar to your basic manicure except your nail tech uses a gel polish. Once it has been applied, your nails are placed under a UV light to harden.

It's a very durable option for manicures and won't cost you much more than a basic manicure. They take about 45 minutes and cost anywhere from $30 to $60.

Gel manicures should be left on no longer than three weeks because the gel will continue to harden. That will make it even more difficult to remove the manicure and could damage your nails.

Gel Extensions

These "glue-on-like" extensions come in different lengths and shapes similar to the choices you have with acrylics. Instead of a UV light, this manicure uses LED.

Similar to hard gel manicures above, gel nail extensions aren't as hard as acrylics. Acrylics break a little easier for this reason.

Gel extensions will run you close to $100 with some higher-end salons costing closer to $130. Unless you have detailed work you're wanting to be added, it should take you about an hour and a half in the salon chair.

Removal of gel nail extensions is easier than hard gel. You can soak them off the way you would soft gel.

Vinylux Manicure

If you're a low-maintenance girly who doesn't want to break the bank, vinylux is your manicure. It's a two-step manicure process that is the closest to basic nail polish.

You don't need anything fancy and this manicure uses your own nail length. Vinylux doesn't require a base coat but absolutely needs a top coat.

The first step is your liquid color, and the second step is the top coat that helps your color last for up to a week. It's the perfect choice for those who like to change their color and style often.

If you can't find a salon near you to try this long-wear polish, you can grab a bottle for as little as $11 to try at home. It's safe to attempt it yourself because vinylux is removed the same way as typical nail polish, with acetone and a cotton ball!

Shellac Manicure

Shellac manicures are another low-maintenance option that doesn't damage your nails because it's not bonded to them in the same way gel and acrylic are. It's a nice mix between typical nail polish and gel.

Shellac is an extremely durable manicure that lasts at least two weeks and is applied in coats like a basic manicure. It's also super easy to remove and doesn't take much time since the shellac polish lets the acetone sink straight to the base layer.

Expect to spend the amount of time you would for a basic manicure unless you're wanting special nail art. It should cost you around $50.

What a Professional Hair Salon in Nanaimo Can Do for You

8/19/2022

Picture

In Canada, there are just under 40,000 hair salons available to choose from. While it's great to have a choice, all the different options can make finding the right hair salon difficult.

A professional hair salon in Nanaimo should offer a range of services. These treatments range from easy trims to fully restoring scalp therapies. You'll be treated by dedicated and expertly trained stylists. At Mehron Salon, your stylist will work to give you the exact treatment you want.

To find out more about what a professional hair salon in Nanaimo can offer you, have a look at the list below.

Get a Restoring Keratin Treatment

Keratin is vital for healthy hair. It helps to smooth down the cells that make up your strands of hair. This makes your hair smoother and stronger.

Keratin is lost in the hair through harsh heat treatments, such as straightening or blow-drying without any heat-protecting product. This is why your hair sometimes gets frizzy after you style it yourself at home.

A professional salon service will provide you with a keratin treatment to restore your hair. This treatment works to seal the cuticle of your hair so that moisture can't escape from it. This leads to less breakage and healthier hair overall.

Restore Your Color or Add Some Fun Highlights

If you're experiencing dull color or changes in the color of your hair, a professional hair salon will help to restore it. They'll use a range of different hair products to ensure you get a vibrant new color without drying your hair out.

If you're ready to cover up grey hair, a salon service is the first place you should go. They'll help you find your ideal color and will be able to revitalize your grey hair in just a few convenient sessions.

Professional hair services can also help you decide what color is right for you. They'll talk you through the right color for your complexion. If you have a color in mind, consult with a hair salon team so that they can find your perfect shade.

Or perhaps it's simply time for a fun change. If you're not ready to dye your hair completely, consider getting highlights. A professional hair salon will put these in for you so they blend beautifully in with your natural hair.

Add Some Hair Extensions

A professional hair service will add hair extensions to your hair with accuracy and precision. The process can be long and works best on healthy hair, so you should discuss your hair extension goals with your stylist.

Hair extensions are a great way to add body, volume, and length to your hair. By allowing a professional team to put them in, you ensure that you don't damage your hair doing so and that they will sit correctly and comfortably on your head.

A Regular Trim or an Entirely New Style

Of course, a professional hair salon can also offer you basic treatments! If you just need a simple cut or trim then book an appointment with a stylist. They'll chop your split ends to give your hair a new and healthy lease of life.

Alternatively, maybe it's time for a brand new you with a brand new style! Professional hair services can offer semi-permanent straightening treatments or perms. Whatever your hairstyle goals are, a salon will be able to help you create the look you're looking for.

Expertly Trained Stylists

Beyond whatever hair treatment you're looking for, going to a professional salon means you get seen by the top stylists available. Make sure you choose a salon that employs well-trained stylists. That way, you know you'll always get an amazing treatment.

At a professional salon, all the stylists there are dedicated to your hair regardless of their level of experience. If you have a very specific request, simply let the team know. They'll find the right stylist to provide you with the hair treatment you're looking for.

At Mehron Salon, all the stylists are highly trained. They'll be more than happy to listen to any requests or concerns you have. That way, they can put you on the path to perfect hair.

Get a Rejuvenating Scalp Treatment

Many people suffer from a dry flaky scalp. Dandruff often follows and this makes those who suffer from it self-conscious. And it's not always easy to know where to go for the right treatment.

But a professional hair salon can help. With the right scalp treatment, dry and dull skin will be gently removed from your head and thoroughly brushed from your hair.

Your scalp will be moisturized, leading to healthier skin that doesn't get flaky as often. A scalp treatment is also incredibly relaxing, especially when it's performed by an expert team at a hair salon. It's a gentle massage on your scalp that will relieve muscle tension and stress from your head.

Relax With a Simple Wash and Blow Dry

A professional hair salon has perfected the basics of hair care. That's why you should enjoy a wash, shampoo, and rinse at your Nanaimo hair salon. During the service, your stylist will gently massage your scalp to work all the shampoo through your hair.

This massage is a relaxing experience that your stylist wants you to enjoy. Once your hair has been rinsed, you'll be taken to the drying station. Your stylist will dry your hair according to your style wishes, giving you soft and silky hair as a result.

Most professional salons offer a range of shampoo and conditioner products. This is great for any clients who have a specific need, such as if a particular shampoo makes your scalp dry. Inform your hairdresser of any issues or concerns regarding your treatment so they can alter it to suit your needs.

Choose the Best Hair Salon in Nanaimo to Get the Best Results

A professional hair salon in Nanaimo will provide you with every kind of treatment you need to get better hair. Whether it's just a simple trim or a complete change of style, trust the experts to get your hair back to its happiest and healthiest condition.

How to Find the Best Hair Salon in Nanaimo

6/28/2022

best hair salon Nanaimo view
Did you know that 59% of women in the United States are unhappy with their hair for one reason or another? Having well-styled, healthy hair is important when it comes to one's self-esteem and appearance, and having a reliable hair salon up your sleeve can help you accomplish that.

If you're looking for the best hair salon Nanaimo has to offer, you might be wondering what you should look for first when it comes to choosing the best hair salon in Nanaimo in the first place.

Fortunately, choosing the perfect hair salon for you isn't as hard as you might think. All you need to do is take a few things into consideration such as online customer reviews and certain skills. Keep reading to learn more about choosing the best hair salon Nanaimo BC has to offer.

Check the Online Customer Reviews

Checking the online customer reviews of a hair salon before choosing it is perhaps the single most important thing you can do. This is because online customer reviews can tell you a lot about a certain salon that you might not be able to find out on your own until it's too late. For example, a hair salon's website will only be able to tell you so much.

A salon's website might look nice and professional and such a website might choose you to pick that hair salon for your next hair appointment. However, if you don't check the customer reviews first without choosing, you might not know whether or not the service that the hair salon provides is actually good or not. You might end up at the salon, get a haircut, and realize only once the appointment is over that you just got the worst haircut of your life.

When you check the customer reviews for a particular hair salon, the first thing you'll want to do is check the salon's overall rating. Is it four stars or maybe less? The fewer stars a salon has, of course, the less ideal that salon will be for the future of your hair.

What You Need to Know

If you find a hair salon with a ton of negative customer reviews, you definitely won't want to go to that salon to get your hair cut or styled. On the other hand, if you find a salon that is overflowing with positive reviews, it might be worth doing a bit more research and finding out whether or not that salon is right for you.

You should also try going out of your way to read the individual reviews. Individual reviews can tell you what in particular makes a particular salon good or bad. For example, the staff at the hair salon might be very friendly and very professional but the cost of the services might be far too high for the services provided.

On the other hand, some customers might complain that the staff is rude and unhelpful. By reading these reviews, you can save yourself a lot of time and money that you may have wasted by going to a salon that you didn't research first. But online customer reviews aren't the only thing you should pay attention to when choosing one of the best hair salons in Nanaimo.

Choose a Hair Salon That Fits Your Budget

Many people get so excited about the idea of choosing a new hair salon that they completely forget about their budget. However, this is the last thing you should do. Having a budget for haircuts and hair services is very important.

Otherwise, you might end up regretting whatever hair services you paid for at your new hair salon. But how can you make sure that your budget stays in check when choosing a new hair salon? First, you will need to continue with your online research.

Some hair salon websites will list the prices of their services while others will not. This can help you somewhat when it comes to choosing the right hair salon for you. If a website lists the prices of their services or at least most of their services such as a haircut, you'll be able to tell whether or not you want to pay a certain amount for a certain service.
You should also keep an exact number for your budget in mind. If you don't have an exact limit for your budget, you might be tempted to go over your budget. Whether you go over your budget a little bit or a lot, you'll end up regretting all the money you spent if you're not careful.

The Details

Once you create a limit for your budget, you'll find that choosing an affordable hair salon will be a much easier task. But keep in mind that money isn't always everything. There is also the concept of something being too cheap rather than too expensive, and that isn't always a good thing.

For example, suppose that you find a hair salon that offers plenty of different services and all of those services are very cheap. If it seems too good to be true, it probably is. If you go to a hair salon that is unusually cheap, you might find that the services that the hair salon provides aren't as high-quality as you were hoping for.

If you go with this kind of hair salon, you might end up with a choppy haircut that you'll end up crying over until your hair grows out again. Does this mean that you should find the most expensive hair salon in your area to avoid this problem? Not at all.

Hair salons that are very expensive usually aren't all that much better than mid-range hair salons. For that reason, mid-range hair salons will often be your best bet unless your budget dictates otherwise. Most mid-range hair salons are very professional while keeping their hair services at an agreeable price.

That way, if you go to such a salon, you should be happy with the results of whatever hair service you decide to get.

Be Sure to Ask the Right Questions

If you're having a hard time deciding between a few hair salons, a good way to narrow down your selection is to take a visit to each salon and ask a few questions. Asking the right questions can tell you a lot of information that you might not be able to find on a salon's website or even on the site's online customer reviews. But what are the right questions to ask?

You might think that the first question you should ask a stylist is, "How long have you been doing hair?" While this can be a good question, there are actually better questions to ask. Why might this be, you ask?

As it turns out, the number of years a stylist has been doing hair won't tell you all that much about that stylist's skill. For example, a stylist might have been doing hair for 40 years, but if that stylist hasn't educated herself since the 1980s, then her haircuts and hairstyles might be very dated which, of course, wouldn't be ideal for you. Instead of asking about the number of years a stylist has been working, you should focus more on the stylist's education.

For example, consider asking about the stylist's recent education. Has the stylist been keeping her skills modern by going to different educational experiences every so often? Or has she not learned anything new in the realm of haircutting for decades?

Finding the Perfect Stylists

Of course, if your stylist has not been keeping up with the most modern trends and only knows a few basic hairstyles, that stylist or hair salon isn't going to be the right choice for you unless you want your hair done in a very basic way. Instead, you will want to look for a hair salon that has stylists that are modern.

That way, you'll never have to run the risk of ending up with a very dated hairstyle. If you find a salon full of stylists that go out of their way to learn new techniques and styles in the world of hairstyling, then it might be a good idea to choose that hair salon right then and there. Of course, this is easier said than done.

It might take you quite a long time to find the perfect hair salon with the perfect stylists. However, that's a normal part of the process and you should remember to have patience if the process is taking a while. Some people, at a certain point, might be tempted to give up on the hunt and choose the closest and cheapest hair salon.

This, however, would be a mistake. As mentioned before, if you don't do a lot of research on a particular hair salon, you might not be happy with the results. And if you really care about how your hair looks, you'll want to make the right choice the first time rather than deal with the consequences of a bad haircut or dye job.

Go Out for a Test Run

If you think that you've finally narrowed down your choices and found the salon that you want to go to, it will be a good idea to give the salon a sort of test run. What might this consist of, you might ask? Of course, if you're not quite sure about whether or not your salon choice is right for you, you won't want to book a haircut right away.

Instead, try booking a much simpler hair service such as a blowdry. A blowdry might not tell you everything about a certain salon, but it can tell you a lot about the professionality of the staff, the friendliness of your stylist, the speed of the procedure, and more. A blowdry really doesn't consist of anything more than washing and drying your hair, but the process can still reveal the talent of the stylist (or the absence of talent).

For example, a skilled stylist will be able to make your blow-dried hair look amazing. Your hair will be full of volume, it will be smooth and shiny, and it should feel great. On the other hand, an unskilled stylist or a stylist who is careless will leave your hair looking more or less ordinary.

The Blowdry Test

Of course, when you're paying money to get your hair done, the last thing you want is for your hair to look ordinary. That's why going in for a test run is such a good idea. With the simple blowdry test, you'll be able to see whether the hair salon goes above and beyond your expectations or whether the salon doesn't meet your expectations at all.

Another great thing about the blowdry test is that you won't have to spend a lot of money right off the bat. That way, if the experience isn't as great as you were hoping for, you won't have to worry too much about the money you spent. This wouldn't be the case if you decided to get a haircut or another, more intensive hair procedure.

If you love the way your hair looks after the blowdry test, you shouldn't have any trouble picking that salon as your new favorite salon.

Are you looking for ways to guarantee that your crush takes a second glance every time you walk into the room? Do you want a change of pace to your daily look for the end of 2021? If so, then you need to learn all you can about the best head-turning hair color trends for this fall.

Doing so will help you learn how to choose a hair color that will set you apart. More importantly, it will help you feel comfortable, yet confident in the new look.
See below for an in-depth guide on the best hair color trends for the fall of 2021.

1. Dimensions Galore

When someone says the words "autumn" or "fall", what immediately comes to your mind? We're assuming that you're picturing yourself bundled up in your favorite loose crewneck hoodie or with a warm and fuzzy blanket on your couch, reading a good book.

If that's the case, then we like where your head is at! Now it's time to find some hair color ideas that can match your expectation for a snuggly fall.

We highly recommend that you add different dimensions to your natural hair color. Rather than one unanimous color throughout your mane, you'll have a wide variety of shades and tones to give your hair more definition. It's subtle, but don't worry—people will definitely notice!

For all you blondies out there, find a trustworthy hair salon in Nanaimo that can help you add darker and lighter blonde streaks. Your hair will give off the appearance of more volume.

If you're a brunette, then consider adding some lighter and darker brown shades, and maybe even a bit of blonde or red to mix things up!

The point here is to add variety. It will provide a beautiful reflection of what we love most about the fall: the wide variety of colors to signify a new season!

2. Warm Blonde Tips

Nothing's better than waking up and getting the chance to order a fluffy cappuccino from your favorite coffee joint.

The colors of that cappuccino are directly correlated to the fall season: a beautiful mixture of light brown, dark, brown, and even a hint of yellow. Why not use that as inspiration for your fall 2021 hairstyle?
One of the hottest hair color 2021 trends is creating a seamless transition from dark blonde or light brown to beautiful warm blonde tips. Unlike bleach blonde, the warm blonde gives your hair a healthier glow and fits in perfectly with the fall/winter seasons.

Envision yourself rocking this hair style trend while you're wearing a snuggly sweater or walking downtown in a trench coat. It works for virtually any outfit ensemble that you could put together!

Not to mention that this ties perfectly with the dimensions we mentioned previously. It can work with naturally wavy or curly hair to look for volume. It can also help you provide more of a gathered look if your curly hair has a habit of looking untamed.

If you want to create a subtle change that people will notice for the fall, then here's our suggestion: go the warm blonde route!

3. Autumn Red

Of all the different colors that fall foliage creates in the leaves, what's the most noticeable one of all? It's the red leaves, of course.

Red is such an interesting color. In color psychology, it has more range than any other color in terms of the emotions and feelings it can convey. It can be used to personify excitement or youthfulness, while also giving off the impression of warmth and encouragement. Who isn't looking for those features during the fall season?
If you're looking for a dramatic change this fall, then we recommend trying an autumn red hair color. It's sure to make a statement, and you'll be receiving compliments on it for the entire fall season.

Your hairstylist can help you find a hue of red that's vibrant, yet fits naturally with your skin tone so that it looks more like a seamless fit (even if this is your first time going red).

4. Dark Brunette to Medium Blonde

Remember what we were saying about the warm blonde tips? Perhaps that wasn't as dramatic of a change as you were looking for.

If not, then we promise you'll like this one better: consider changing your hair color to a wavy set of hair that starts as dark brown at the top and transitions into a medium blonde at the tip.

This hairstyle is one of the hottest trends for fall 2021. It looks just as good up in a bun as it does when it's completely down.

5. Dark Brown and Red

Are you noticing a trend? We're all about the red this fall! If you're interested in adding red into your hair, but not ready to fully commit to an all-red look, we have a solution: mix it in with a dark brown base.

For those of you that want a darker hair color this year, dark brunette is certainly the way to go. But to make it more vibrant and lively, we recommend adding a bit of red.

How much red? That's completely up to you! You and your stylist can determine how much red you're shooting for and create a look that's entirely your own.

When you come to work with us, you'll enjoy a comfortable atmosphere where you can serve clients who appreciate your services.

A Fantastic Atmosphere

On that note, you'll also enjoy working with some great people. Our team is highly talented, creative, and most staff have decades of experience.

It'll be an excellent environment to work in, where you can bounce ideas off of one another and just enjoy each other's company when there are lulls in business. In fact, you just might make some friends for life and have an excellent network in the industry for future reference.

While most people hate and dread going to work, you won't feel that way when you work at Mehron Salon. You'll be looking forward to each new workday, where you'll get to spend quality time with some friendly people!

In addition to our fantastic atmosphere, you'll also find an outstanding sense of community here. We have a passion for helping the local area, which is why we're always involved with ongoing community work.

If it's important to you that the salon you work for cares about the local community, then you'll certainly get it here at Mehron Salon. Not only will this help with a sense of accomplishment, but you'll also gain lots more experience.

We Help You Succeed

We don't just hire stylists and leave them to their jobs. We're determined to help all of our staff advance their careers and keep our clients happy, which is why we pay for you to get ongoing education! What's even better is, we do this for all of our stylists, both new and old.

Through these programs, you'll be able to stay up-to-date on the latest trends and styling techniques. We'll even help you get Red Seal certified, which is basically a badge of excellent work.

In addition, we'll pay you while you get Red Seal certified. This is an investment in your future, as you'll be able to use this certification anywhere else in Canada, should you relocate. This will help you deliver better results for our clients plus enable you to grow as a stylist, which is a win-win situation.

Whether you've just learned how to become a hairstylist or you've been doing this job for years, there's always something more to be learned. We firmly believe in this and work hard to keep our staff as well-educated as they can be!

Flexible Hours

We understand that you might have other jobs or responsibilities you have to take care of. In fact, more people now are in part-time employment than ever before!

It might be tough looking for hairstylist jobs in other salons since many of them are only hiring for full-time positions. But here at Mehron Salon, we're flexible! We have both full-time and part-time stylist positions available; all you have to do is ask.

You won't have to worry about giving up your leisure time or neglecting your responsibilities when you work at this salon. We'll always do our best to accommodate your schedule so you can work and have a life at the same time.

Great Pay

For many, being a stylist is a dream come true. You get to do what you love, plus get paid for it!

But not all salons are created equal. Some have barely any traffic, plus the clients tip very little. You might end up barely able to pay your rent in some cases.
When you're a stylist at Mehron Salon, you'll enjoy great pay! We have either hourly or commission and profit sharing (bonuses), as well as product sales commissions. In addition, we have clients that always tip very well.

Also, our salon is located in a mall, which means we're in a high traffic area. There's never a dull moment here. It's always busy, and we can always use a helping hand!
