Wondering what the latest nail trends are in 2022? You've come to the right place!
Whether you're looking to spend a lot of money or a little, we've got the list of manicures for your budget. Read below to learn about five different types of professional manicures and what hair salon in Nanaimo to visit to have them done!
Acrylic Manicure
Are you looking to add some length to your short nails? An acrylic manicure can help with that!
This type of manicure uses both a liquid monomer and a powder polymer to create a strong layer on your nails that will last you around three weeks. You can ask your manicurist to make them into just about any shape you'd like including...
- Round
- Square
- Oval
- Almond
- Squoval
- Stiletto
- Coffin
The choices don't stop there either! Your professional manicurist can lead you in the right direction for the look you're trying to achieve.
Plan to spend one to two hours in the salon for acrylic nails. They cost anywhere from $30 to $100 depending on the salon and design.
Don't be concerned when your manicurist roughs up your nail a little bit. This helps the acrylic nail adhere properly to your natural nail.
They will then use a brush to shape the nail into the shape you want before allowing it to cure. Once it's fully cured, the polish is applied.
Trying to take your acrylic nails off yourself is a good way to ruin your nails. Never try to rip them off without the proper soaking. It's much better to go to the salon and allow the nail tech to remove them.
Dip Manicure
A dip powder manicure is a fun and fairly inexpensive option for your nails. It is a similar technique to acrylic except the bonding agent is different.
Your nail tech applies the superglue-like substance to your nails and then either dips or pours colored powder over the top. It's not liquid!
Your nails stay dry to promote the best adhesion of powder possible. Once enough pigment is applied, a clear, protective layer goes on top.
Dip manicures can last you up to four weeks, but it's a good idea to change it every 14 days to avoid any bacteria from forming. You can expect to pay anywhere from $30 to $55.
Removing a dip manicure can be a scary process if you've never done it before. However, if you follow the proper procedure, your nails should be fine.
You need to buff away the top, clear coat before soaking your nails in acetone for about 15 minutes. Then, you should be able to wipe the dip away with a cotton ball or pad that has been soaked in acetone.
Gel Manicure
While there used to be just two kinds of gel manicures, hard and soft, you can now also get gel extensions. However, gel extensions are pre-made in a variety of shapes and are then applied to the nail.
The difference between hard and soft gel manicures is the way they're removed. Soft gel manicures are easier to remove because they just need soaking.
Hard gel manicures need to be filed off but also allow you to do more nail shapes than soft ones. Hard gel is similar to acrylic but isn't quite as rigid.
Gel manicures look similar to your basic manicure except your nail tech uses a gel polish. Once it has been applied, your nails are placed under a UV light to harden.
It's a very durable option for manicures and won't cost you much more than a basic manicure. They take about 45 minutes and cost anywhere from $30 to $60.
Gel manicures should be left on no longer than three weeks because the gel will continue to harden. That will make it even more difficult to remove the manicure and could damage your nails.
Gel Extensions
These "glue-on-like" extensions come in different lengths and shapes similar to the choices you have with acrylics. Instead of a UV light, this manicure uses LED.
Similar to hard gel manicures above, gel nail extensions aren't as hard as acrylics. Acrylics break a little easier for this reason.
Gel extensions will run you close to $100 with some higher-end salons costing closer to $130. Unless you have detailed work you're wanting to be added, it should take you about an hour and a half in the salon chair.
Removal of gel nail extensions is easier than hard gel. You can soak them off the way you would soft gel.
Vinylux Manicure
If you're a low-maintenance girly who doesn't want to break the bank, vinylux is your manicure. It's a two-step manicure process that is the closest to basic nail polish.
You don't need anything fancy and this manicure uses your own nail length. Vinylux doesn't require a base coat but absolutely needs a top coat.
The first step is your liquid color, and the second step is the top coat that helps your color last for up to a week. It's the perfect choice for those who like to change their color and style often.
If you can't find a salon near you to try this long-wear polish, you can grab a bottle for as little as $11 to try at home. It's safe to attempt it yourself because vinylux is removed the same way as typical nail polish, with acetone and a cotton ball!
Shellac Manicure
Shellac manicures are another low-maintenance option that doesn't damage your nails because it's not bonded to them in the same way gel and acrylic are. It's a nice mix between typical nail polish and gel.
Shellac is an extremely durable manicure that lasts at least two weeks and is applied in coats like a basic manicure. It's also super easy to remove and doesn't take much time since the shellac polish lets the acetone sink straight to the base layer.
Expect to spend the amount of time you would for a basic manicure unless you're wanting special nail art. It should cost you around $50.
